Brooklyn Community Foundation invites LOIs for Brooklyn Elders Fund
Founded in 2009, the Brooklyn Community Foundation is the first and only public foundation dedicated to Brooklyn, New York’s charitable community, working in partnership with generous donors and community leaders to invest in racial justice and community-led change.
The foundation invites applications for its Brooklyn Elders Fund grant program, which supports Brooklyn-serving organizations working to ensure that older adults in the borough have the opportunity and agency to achieve social and economic success. The fund aims to tackle significant structural barriers to access and opportunities for adults over 50 years of age, particularly those who live with the realities of multiple oppressions or burdens.
The initiative emphasizes community leadership, focusing on historically under-resourced communities and immigrant groups. The foundation also supports policy and advocacy efforts to increase older Brooklynites' rights and benefits, including supporting relevant research and evaluation. Among other considerations, the fund will prioritize support for organizations that work toward the systemic redistribution of power, opportunities, and access for people of all races so that they are equally seen, heard, valued, and respected.
One-year and multiyear general operating support grants of up to $45,000 will be awarded within three areas of focus: aging in place, promoting elders’ rights, and access to benefits and entitlements.
Letters of inquiry are due February 22, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. ET, and upon review, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full application by April 19, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.
To be eligible, applicants must be incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization or be working under the auspices of an authorized fiscal sponsor; serve or benefit Brooklyn older adults and residents, and have an office or a regular physical presence in Brooklyn.
